In response to a U. S. Department of Education June 29, 2005 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for IDEA 2004, the NIMAS Technical Committee recommended that the previous Standard, which is an extension of ANSI/NISO Z39.86 2002, be updated to reflect the more current DAISY/NISO Z39.86 2005 specification. The changes to the NIMAS baseline element set are modest, although additional corrections were also suggested. Changes are now official; the final NIMAS was published on July 19, 2006 (71 FR 41084) and was included as Appendix C to Part 300—National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard—published on August 14, 2006.
