NIMAS Development Committee Subgroup Action Items

Policy & Commerce
  • Discussion Item 1 – Educate publishers and state agencies about the benefits of "opting in" to the NIMAC.
  • Discussion Item 2 – Facilitate a "market solution" for accessible textbooks.
  • Discussion Item 3 – What exemplars, presentations and documents are needed to facilitate Items 1 and 2?

Technology
  • Discussion Item 1 – Suggest procedures to align NIMAS to DAISY/NISO Z39.86.
  • Discussion Item 2 – Expand the availability of DAISY creation tools and DTB reader technologies.
  • Discussion Item 3 – Support standardization (and NIMAS adoption) of math and science markup.

Pedagogy
  • Discussion Item 1 – Address the requirement that all students with print disabilities receive accessible instructional materials in a timely manner. Consider and define best practices for curriculum design and instructional materials, building upon NIMAS to enhance functionality.
  • Discussion Item 2 – Broaden the range of materials to be provided: What are "related instructional materials"? Broaden the content to include math, science and other subjects.
  • Discussion Item 3 – Expand educator awareness of the benefits of flexible and accessible instructional materials.
