The purpose of the National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard Implementation Advisory Council (NIMAS Implementation Advisory Council) will be to maintain, advance, and support the adoption of the NIMAS at the state level. These activities are designed to facilitate the timely provision of accessible versions of core print instructional materials to qualifying students. Membership will include state NIMAS leaders/coordinators, state assistive technology (AT) agencies staff, NIMAS Technical Assistance Center staff, the National Instructional Materials Access Center (NIMAC) staff, curriculum publishers, and experts in the production of Braille, audio, e-text, and large print products as required. NIMAS Implementation Advisory Council members will be appointed by the NIMAS Technical Assistance Center to a two-year renewable term. Subsequent member nominations will be submitted to the NIMAS Technical Assistance Center and to the Council.
Following initial appointments in the Fall of 2007, governance procedures and membership will be publicized here on the NIMAS web site, and meetings of both groups will continue to remain open to the public.
